About the presenter Joan Zhang:
I am Joan Zhang, a counselor at City of Fremont Youth and Family Services. I graduated from Santa Clara University with a Masters degree in Counseling Psychology, as a licensed therapist. Also, I am a wife and mother, I raise my child in the US. Eight years of experience in this field have given me a deeper understanding of how important it is to help Asian children cultivate emotional intelligence and to help them achieve academic excellence. I like to share my professional and personal experiences with other parents to support our children, helping them to lead a healthy and happy life.
Biculturalism is a broad topic and this workshop will touch on some of the following:
Characteristics of child development from early age to adolescent years.
Why kids are stressed; how it affects them and what parents can do about it.
How peer pressure forms and how it affects kids, some strategies to address it.
Role of parents, creating strong social connections, open communication, humor and creativity, family time, and fostering emotional health.
The workshop will also cover many other facets of parent-child relationships.
